- Preface
- This product fits all Kawasaki motorcycles with fuel injection (FI) that have a diagnostic system connector on board. This connector is referred to in Kawasaki manuals as KDS (Kawasaki Diagnostic System). Unlike other gear indicators available for your motorcycle, this product connects to the diagnostic connector and makes installation very straightforward. The device reads data directly from the ECU, thus providing faster and more reliable measurements than competing products. The display is automatically self-learning, there is no button and no 'programming wire'. Know limitations; your motorcycle is not equipped with a gear position sensor. Therefore, determining the gear in use is only possible when the engine is running and the clutch is released.
- Installation
- Find the 4-pin diagnostic connector (KDS) under the seat, near the ECU box. It has a removable cap and is either translucent or black. Note: You may find TWO of these connectors on your motorcycle. In that case, try both connectors, but only one of them provides data to the SEPP gear position indicator. It will not harm your motorcycle if you connect the SEPP gear position indicator to the wrong connector first. Remove the cap, connect the gear indicator connector and route the cable to the mounting location. Peel the green plastic from the back of the device and mount the display. Secure the cable with the supplied cable ties, taking care that the steering movement is not impeded by the cable.
- Troubleshooting
- You may find TWO translucent connectors with a removable cap or a blanking plug on the motorcycle. Try the second one if the device does not work from the first. Disconnect the SEPP connector and check if the pins are broken, bent, or pushed out of position. Reconnect the plug and make sure all connections are good and the connector is fully seated. If you cannot perform the setup procedure, your battery may be old or weak. Charge the battery or connect another battery with a jumper cable. If some gears are not displayed correctly with the engine running and clutch released, let the device sit and perform the setup procedure again. If the problem persists, your clutch may be slipping.
- Warranty
- The unit is fully sealed and epoxy encapsulated, which provides extreme protection of the internal parts from impact, vibration, and water. To ensure trouble-free operation from the start, all units were extensively tested before delivery.
